Mostly July-August 2004
Doll-sized "Around the World" quilt for Mimi
A doll-sized "Around the World" quilt to match Miranda's bed-sized lap quilt - I'd promised one to her back when I was making her quilt, but kept putting it off. Finally cut some of the strips in early 2004. Cut the rest of them the end of July. Sewed together the A and B rows and the tubes the first week of August. Cut the tubes into the CDE rows on 8/25; sewed them into quarters 8/26... Finished the quilt top (except for the borders) Wednesday 9/01 while Miranda and Charlotte watched. After they went to bed, I cut the borders. The next afternoon, Shawn took Miranda to the Air & Space Museum downtown with his dad and her cousin Brendan. While they were downtown, Charlotte played in our room while I finished the quilt. We surprised Miranda with it when she and Shawn returned just before bedtime. I took a couple of photos of the latest addition before Miranda got home: Mimi's quilt was done in the same manner as Miranda's, with the same fabrics in the same order, but with 2" strips instead of 4-1/2" strips for the blocks and with the borders similarly scaled down. I even quilted around the center block and the yellow areas just as in Miranda's original quilt. |
