Spring 2001
Miranda's Around the World Quilt

Spring 2001: Next go at quilting came with an "Trip Around the World Quilt in a Day" class at G Street Fabrics. The class used Eleanor Burns' seminal book by the same title.

Miranda chose the main fabric, a medium blue with cat faces; the very very very patient saleswomen helped me come to a decision on the others after a couple of hours of pondering a few combos. It is NOT as neon in real life as in these photos. Blame it on the kitchen fluorescents.

Even though only the quilt top got completed in the class itself, I was hooked. It took a long time until I'd batted and backed and quilted it (simple "stitch in the ditch") for Miranda's bed, and turned out way too big for a lap yet a bit too short and wide for a twin, and it was planned to be more dark or bright than white, but we're still pretty happy with it.

Then I procrastinated. There was a long hiaitus until another project got completed.

Miranda asked back then for a matching doll quilt for Mimi. I made her one at last, summer 2004. Here it is: Mimi's Around the World Quilt.
